Kitchen Installation — what's actually involved

What it is

Kitchen installation is the full job: strip-out of the existing kitchen, services first-fix (plumbing, electrics, gas), plastering, flooring, supply and fit of the new units, worktops, sink and tap, appliances, splashback, decoration and snag. We can install kitchens from any supplier or fabricate bespoke cabinetry in our workshop — and we coordinate every supporting trade.

Who it's for

Homeowners replacing a tired kitchen, landlords upgrading a property to lift rent and reduce turnover, developers fitting new-build or refurbishment schemes, and clients who've bought a kitchen and discovered the supplier's recommended fitter is booked six months out. We work to any supplier's design, or we'll redesign with you.

When you need it

When the existing kitchen is dating the rest of the house, when units are failing (sagging hinges, swollen MDF, broken drawer runners), when you're extending and replanning the ground floor, or before sale where data shows a new kitchen returns £1.50–£2 for every £1 spent.

Why professional matters

Kitchens are the trade where small mistakes are very visible: a worktop joint that catches the eye, a tile run that drifts off level, an extractor cable showing above a wall unit. Joiner-led installation means cabinets sit square, worktop joints are tight, and every service is brought through cleanly the first time.

What happens if it's ignored

The cost of leaving it — or getting it wrong

Supplier-recommended fitters booked 6 months out

Buy the kitchen today, install it next year. We can usually install supplier-bought kitchens within 3–6 weeks.

Multiple trades and nobody coordinating

Self-managing electrician, plumber, plasterer and fitter is a programming nightmare. We sequence the lot and protect your timeline.

Worktop joints in the wrong place

On laminate and quartz, joint position matters — bad placement leaves the joint catching every wipe of the cloth. We set out joints around hobs and corners where they belong.

Services that surface after the units are in

Sockets behind cabinets, waste pipes routed wrong, gas hob with no isolator. We first-fix services before units arrive, photograph the wall, and avoid the rework.

Our Process

A defined system — so you know exactly what happens next

  1. Step 1

    Design review or new design

Bring us a Howdens/Magnet/Wren design — or we redesign with you. We check service positions, ventilation and unit clearances before signing off.

  2. Step 2

    Strip out & first-fix services

Old kitchen removed, walls and floor prepped, electrician and plumber in to first-fix sockets, lighting circuits, hot/cold supplies and waste runs. Plastering as needed.

  3. Step 3

    Unit and appliance installation

Carcasses set out, levelled and scribed to walls. Doors and drawers fitted and adjusted for parallel gaps. Appliances installed and tested (including gas hob certification via Gas Safe engineer).

  4. Step 4

    Worktops, splashback and tiling

Worktops templated and fitted with tight joints in the right positions. Splashback or tiling installed and grouted. Sink, tap and waste plumbed in and tested.

  5. Step 5

    Decoration, snag & handover

Final caulking, decoration touch-ups, deep clean, and we walk the kitchen with you against a snag list. All warranty paperwork (units, appliances, our 12-month workmanship) handed over.

The benefits

What you get when D2 delivers the job

One team, one programme

Joiner-led project, with electrician, plumber, plasterer and tiler all coordinated. You deal with one person.

Faster than the supplier's fitter

Typical install: 7–10 working days for a standard kitchen, 10–14 for larger or bespoke schemes.

Square cabinets, tight joints

Carcasses scribed to walls, doors adjusted to consistent gaps, worktop joints positioned and finished invisibly.

All certificates handed over

Electrical minor works certificate, Gas Safe certificate, plumbing test results — the paperwork insurers and buyers' solicitors will want.

Honest design feedback

If your design has a service issue or a clearance problem, we flag it before we cut anything.

12-month workmanship guarantee

On top of the unit and appliance manufacturer warranties — written, dated, and backed by a registered UK limited company.

In Detail

Materials, methods and the situations they suit

Kitchen installation looks like a single job. It is actually six trades sequenced over two weeks. Below is how we approach the variations we see most often in Liverpool & Merseyside homes.

Trade-supplied kitchens (Howdens, Magnet, Benchmarx, Wren, IKEA)

Each supplier ships cabinets slightly differently — Howdens carcasses arrive pre-assembled; IKEA flat-packed; Magnet a mix. We are familiar with all of them. We check the delivery, flag missing items, and install to the supplier's instructions while taking on the responsibility for the finished result.

Bespoke and in-frame kitchens

For in-frame Shaker kitchens (deVOL-style) and fully bespoke cabinetry, we build carcasses and face frames in our workshop, prime in the workshop, install on site and have the painter spray on site for a furniture-grade finish. Hand-painted finishes available in any Farrow & Ball or trade colour.

Worktops — laminate, solid timber, quartz, granite

Laminate worktops cut and joined in-house with sealed biscuit joints. Solid timber worktops oiled and joined with through-bolt connectors. Quartz, granite and Dekton templated by our partnered stone fabricator, fitted by us within 5–7 days of template. Joint positions agreed up front — we never leave a joint in front of the sink.

Appliances and services

Integrated and freestanding appliances installed, levelled and tested. Gas hobs connected by our Gas Safe engineer with a fresh certificate. Extractor ducted to outside wall (not recirculating where ducting is achievable) for compliance with Approved Doc F.

Older properties — out-of-true walls, settled floors

Victorian and Edwardian properties rarely have a square wall. We level floors with self-levelling compound before units land, scribe end panels to take up wall undulation, and pack toe-kicks so the cabinet faces sit perfectly upright. The finish is square even when the building is not.
